Making money with DreamHost

As stated in my inventory DreamHost referrals have made me quite a lot of money. It’s one of my best performing methods to date. In all honesty: I believe I’ve underutilized the amount of money I could be making with DreamHost. On my best month, I made over $800 in affiliate fees, and over the past two years I’ve made more than $6,000 with DreamHost alone. The best feature about this income is that I’ve literally done no work since first instating it, and it continues to make me money each and every month.

Give the people what they need

Almost all of my referrals have spawned from a $40 off coupon I created back in last February. This coupon is displayed on the download page for a very popular Wordpress theme I created. It’s nothing overly flashy or annoying — in fact it’s the last thing on the page, and just a couple of sentences and a a couple bolded words.

The key to any affiliate program is giving people products they need. Here we have people downloading a free Wordpress theme. Chances are these people either need hosting now, or will need it in the near future. By pushing a coupon on this page, you get a huge number of qualified prospects.

Coupons!

I love the fact that DreamHost lets you create coupons — people are much more likely to use a coupon than to simply follow a referral link. With the added bonus that DreamHost makes practically no money the first year of anyone’s hosting (it goes all to the affiliate), it’s a no-brainer to make coupons. I’d suggest something in the $30-$40 off range. It might be tempting to put in a measily discount of $5-$10 off — but if you can get three times the amount of referrals for $40 off than you do with $5 off, in the long run you’ll make more money with a $40 coupon.

Walk the talk

I don’t just recommend DreamHost to make money (that’s just a nice side effect). I honestly really do love DreamHost. The plans start off at like $8/month, which is almost nothing in the grand scheme of things. Their features and control panel are awesome, and their uptime is still very good. Are they perfect? No. Do they have downtime? Yes. But c’mon, guys… it’s $8/mo. To me, anyone starting a website really should start off with DreamHost. To prove that to my prospects the site that hosts the theme download is on DreamHost. I use the product on a daily basis so I can honestly recommend it to others. Even this site is on DreamHost!
